Why Is MTV Sign In With TV Provider Not Working?

Problems with signing into the MTV app often arise when you are activating the MTV app or simply want to stream TV shows on the app. The app refuses to sign in with your credentials and displays messages such as ” Code error 20″ or asks you to contact your TV provider.

Sometimes it will ask you repeatedly to sign in even though you are already signed in to the app. You may also be unable to change your TV provider or even sign out of the app.

The worst case is if the app totally refuses to respond to any of your actions.

As I said earlier, these problems are common and may be due to one or some of the following reasons:

  • Poor internet connection
  • TV provider does not include MTV
  • Wrong username and password
  • Outdated app
  • Signing in over WiFi network

Poor Internet Connection

The role of the internet connection in our technological world can not be overemphasized. You literally need a good or strong internet connection in order to be able to sign in with your TV provider on the MTV platform.

Poor internet connectivity will cut off the link between your device and the MTV server, rendering your login credentials invalid and unable to sign in to the app although you may actually be signing in with the correct username and password.

TV Provider Does not Include MTV

You will surely have sign in problems if your TV provider does not include MTV in its package. You will also face a similar situation if MTV does not include your local TV provider in its list of participating TV providers.

In both cases, signing in with your TV login credentials on the MTV app will not work since MTV technically does not recognize your local TV provider.

Wrong Username and Password

Sometimes, there might be nothing technical about why you are unable to log in with your TV provider to MTV other than mere typing errors.

A wrong combination of username and password or a mere change of character in your username or password will prevent the app from validating your credentials and eventually make it impossible for you to sign in.

Outdated App

Outdated versions of your MTV app may be a reason why you are not able to sign in with your TV provider to the MTV app.

Outdated apps are often full of bugs that prevent your app from working at its optimum level.

These bugs may disrupt the operation of the app, thus preventing the sign in page of the app from working smoothly.

How Fix MTV Sign In With TV Provider not Working

First and foremost, you must ensure that you have an active subscription with a TV Provider that includes MTV in its package. You should visit your TV provider’s office or website to create an account online if you do not have a subscription yet. Once you create the account and you have your username and password, you will be good to proceed with signing in to the MTV app on your streaming device.

Below are some tips you can use if you are having issues with signing in with your TV provider on the MTV app:

  • Check internet connection
  • Provide correct username and password
  • Update your MTV app and Device Operating System

Check Internet Connection

As I said earlier, a good internet connection is the basis of digital entertainment in this technological world. You should therefore pay attention to your internet connectivity if you come across a such sign in problems.

If you are having issues signing in to the MTV app, you may apply some of the tips below:

  • Restart your streaming devices such as TV, smartphone, and computer.
  • Restart your WiFi router and try out new locations to get the best internet connection.
  • Delete and reinstall the MTV app to see if the problem will be fixed.
  • Seek assistance from MTV’s customer service since their server may actually be down. You will have to wait for a while before signing in again if that’s the case.

Provide Correct Login Credentials

The problem is very easy to fix if an incorrect username or password is the reason why you are unable to sign in to MTV. In such a case you only have to sign in again with the right credentials and you will be good to go.

However, in order to prevent such scenarios from occurring,  you should take note of the uppercases and lower cases, and special symbols such as underscores and desist from mixing up numbers like “0” with the uppercase letter “O”.

Update MTV App

When it comes to the MTV app, you should always ensure that you have the latest version of the app on your TV or smartphone.

You can visit the app store on your device to update or download the updated versions of the app.

Also, make sure to install the latest software or operating system on your device.

MTV Forgot Password

Sometimes, you may forget the password of your TV provider’s account and may be wondering how you will be able to login to the MTV’s app. Situations like this are expected to occur so don’t panic if you lose your password.

You should reset your password when you forget or lose it. You can contact your TV provider for them to help you reset your password.

On their sign in page, provide your email and click on Forgot Password. Their server will reset your password and email it to the email address you provided.

With the password reset, you will be able to login but remember to change it to a comfortable one you can easily remember once you log in.

What Do I Do If I am Repeatedly Asked to Sign In to the App?

A common problem you may encounter with the app is being asked several times to sign in to the app despite being already signed in.

When this happens, it probably means there is a problem with your TV login credentials so you need to reset your credentials.

The following tips should help solve the problem:

  1. Sign out of the MTV app and reset your TV provider password or username before signing in again. Ensure that you sign in over cellular data rather than WiFi.
  2. If you are unable to sign out of the app, you should uninstall the app and install it again.
  3. Switch off your WiFi and turn on your mobile phone data.
  4. Launch the MTV app and sign in with your TV provider credentials.
  5. You should be able to sign in now on with your mobile data. You can switch back to WiFi once you sign in successfully.

You can also use the same trick when you are activating MTV on your Smart TV or Roku.

  1. If your TV has the SSO, that’s the Single Sign On feature, you should disable it under the Settings menu and sign out.
  2. Use a smartphone that has its cellular data enabled to activate the app on MTV’s website rather than activating it over WiFi.
  3. Next launch the app and sign in with your TV provider credentials using cellular data.
  4. After you sign in with your TV provider credentials, you can reconnect your device to the WiFi.

What Can I Do If I See Code 20 Error?

It is also possible for your TV to display “Code 20 Error” when you try to login in with your TV provider to the MTV app.

In such a situation, the following tips may help:

  1. On your TV, navigate to Settings and the TV Provider, and then Sign out.
  2. Uninstall the app and install it again.
  3. Switch off your WiFi and turn on your mobile phone data.
  4. Launch the MTV app and sign in with your TV provider credentials.

At this point, you should be able to sign in with your mobile data. You can switch back to WiFi once you sign in successfully.

The error message should hopefully disappear after doing this.

Final Thoughts

Signing in with your TV provider credentials on MTV’s app is a must if you want to access the shows from the channel. However, the process is not always perfect and may require some fixes here and there once in a while in order for you to successfully sign in.

You should not be worried if you are unable to sign in on your first attempt. Most of the time, the problem is caused by poor internet connection or your TV provider not being part of the list MTV’s participating TV providers.

You should therefore verify that your TV provider actually supports MTV before you attempt to sign in.
