Soundbar

How Do I Stop My Soundbar From Turning Off?

Having your soundbar turn off right in the middle of a thrilling movie scene can be such an awful experience. Of course, you can turn it back on in most cases, but you’ll actually miss out on that electrifying moment even if you are able to do that. If your soundbar is fond of turning off by itself and you want to stop that, then this article is for you.

So, how do you stop your soundbar from turning off? Well, to stop your soundbar from turning off by itself, you need to plug the power cable firmly into the electrical socket. Keep the soundbar’s volume a little bit high and make sure that you deactivate the auto-standby mode on the soundbar.

Keeping the power cable tight in the electrical is the real deal if you do not want the soundbar to turn off uncontrollably. However, there is more stuff you can do to prevent the soundbar from turning off and these are exactly what I’m going to discuss in this article. So, if you’re ready to learn more, read on for these tricks.

Why Does My Soundbar Turn Off By Itself?

Soundbars can offer the best of audio quality if they are set up properly. Think of combining several speakers to get in a single unit – that’s what you get from a soundbar.

However, despite being so good at what they do, you should not forget that they are electrical gadgets after all and electrical gadgets, sometimes, do not work as planned.

For soundbars, one common unpleasant experience that users face is the automatic shutdown. The worst of it is when the soundbar automatically turns off on you in the middle of your soothing music.

If you are wondering why those moments occur, I have some answers for you.

Soundbars normally turn off by themselves because of the following reasons:

  • Loose power cable
  • Outdated firmware
  • Active auto-standby mode
  • Low volumes.

These reasons may not be applicable to all soundbars since soundbars are of different models. So, depending on the model of your soundbar, you may have to deal with one or two of these reasons when your soundbar turns off.

Let’s take a look at them in detail.

Loose Power Cable

A loose power cable is the commonest culprit when your soundbar begins to turn off by itself frequently.

Since the power plug is the only channel by which electrical power can be delivered to the soundbar, it becomes loose and unable to connect well with the wall socket rendering the soundbar as good as dead.

Outdated Firmware

Soundbars can be affected by bugs and software glitches. This is typically common for soundbars that are old.

The bugs and glitches generally interfere with the operation of the soundbar and can cause it to turn off by itself even if the soundbar’s power cable is secured in an electrical socket.

Active Auto-standby Mode

Depending on the brand and model of your soundbar, the soundbar may have this auto-standby mode feature.

This feature helps you save power by turning off the soundbar after some period of time if you do not actively engage the soundbar.

Although this feature is beneficial, it can also disrupt your listening experience if it is on at a time when you are listening to some music or watching a movie.

Low Volume

This is similar to the auto-standby mode. Depending on the brand and model of your soundbar, the soundbar will automatically turn off if it detects that your soundbar’s volume has been quite low for some time.

This is also a means to save power, but the flip side can interfere with your listening experience.

Can WiFi Signal Interfere With My Soundbar?

This is a question that most soundbar users ask often. Yes. WiFi signals can disrupt the audio signals of the soundbar.

The reason for the interference is more technical, so I wouldn’t be able to discuss it fully here.

The crux of the matter however is that the WiFi signals and Bluetooth signals interfere with the audio signals on your soundbar and if the soundbar is not able to detect the input audio signal to it after some time, it may automatically turn off.

If you have some WiFi or Bluetooth connections in your home, make sure to keep your soundbar and the router away from each other whenever you want to use the two the same, so that your soundbar signals do not get interrupted.

How to Stop Soundbars From Turning Off By Itself

Now that you know some of the reasons why your soundbar often turns off by itself, let’s look into how you can stop that from happening.

Practically, you may not know the cause of the sudden shutdown of your soundbar right away. You’ll therefore have to do some troubleshooting to pinpoint possible causes.

If you want to stop the soundbar from turning off by itself, you can do the following:

  • Tighten the power cable connection
  • Deactivate auto-standby mode
  • Update your software
  • Keep volume levels high

Tighten the Power Cable Connection

When your soundbar turns off by itself, the first thing you should do is check the power cable. Look around the soundbar and the cable connection area to see if you’ll find any loose cords.

If the problem has to do with the connection at the wall socket, make sure to tighten the grip of the power cable in the socket and then turn your soundbar back on.

If the electrical socket on the wall itself is faulty, you’ll have to fix it and ensure that the power supply to the soundbar is steady.

Deactivate Auto-standby Mode

For most soundbars, the auto-standby mode automatically sets in when you do not operate the soundbar for about 15 minutes.

This feature is automatically activated in your device to save power. However, you can deactivate it by yourself if you realize that it’s interrupting your listening experience.

On some models, however, you can not deactivate the auto-standby mode. So, when the device goes into auto-standby mode, simply press the power button to turn it back on.

You can consult your soundbar’s user manual to see if the auto-standby mode on your soundbar can be deactivated or not.

If it can, the user manual will also lay out the steps to follow if you want to do that.

If you are using a Samsung soundbar, you can deactivate the Auto Power Link feature by pressing and holding the left directional button on the remote for about 5 seconds. The Auto Power Link feature will be displayed on your soundbar and then you can deactivate it with your remote from there.

Update Soundbar Software

This is a very common trick you can use on most electronic devices. If your soundbar begins to cut out frequently, you should consider updating the software.

Regularly check online to see if an update of your soundbar’s software has been released and then look up the steps to update it from the user’s manual.

Keep Soundbar Volume High

To prevent your soundbar from cutting out automatically, try to keep the volume up as much as possible.

This is because if the soundbar is not able to detect the input audio after some time, it may go into standby mode and then turn.

When the volume of the soundbar is higher, it keeps the device active and the soundbar is able to detect the audio signal without any struggle.

How Do I Reset My Soundbar?

Some soundbars can be reset to do away with temporary glitches on them.

Resetting the soundbar can help resolve the problem of frequent cutting out.

The easiest way to reset a soundbar is to unplug it from the power source and plug it back in. This helps to recycle the power and if you are lucky enough, the problem may be solved by just doing that.

For different brands, you can perform resetting in different ways.

For some brands, you’ll have to hold down the power button and the volume on the unit at the same time for some time and everything will be restored back as usual.

Others will demand that you hold down the power button on the device and the sound buttons on your remote before they will be reset.

For specific details about your brand and model, consulting your user’s manual will be a better option.

Final Thoughts

Everybody hates to be interrupted when you are immersed in that electrifying moment in your music or music – absolutely not by power cutouts. But the reality is that such moments may happen and your soundbar can turn off by itself in such moments.

Usually, this can be due to a bad power connection or a setting on your soundbar. The first thing to do in such cases is to check around your soundbar for loose power cables and then fix them tightly.

I have also provided you with some more tips that you can apply if you want to stop the soundbar from turning off by itself. Hopefully, these should be able to solve all your problems so that you can happily get back to your listening moments.
